gandhi... i haf much to learn from u!
went thru abt gandhi today during my south asia studies lecture. hmm... tis man is powerful...
he is simple... yet shrewd... his leadership skills and wisdom is far beyond the reach of many big and famour leaders thru out history.
he applied the concept of modernization and primordialism to gain the support of the indians at that time. knowing well of the superiority of the colonial master, he was fully aware that striving for national independence for india thru violence was a certain path to defeat.
so he did something different, something bold, something no one would ever dare to do or even thought of doing. he adopted strictly to a non- violence policy(satyagraha- holding on to truth) to seek independence. yet he knew the power of non- violence. the power that can't be dissolve easily by the british.
he stirred up a nation's act of civil disobedience agst the british. he will spend 2hr per day weaving cotton to set an example for others so as to drive out british's goods that was destroying the economic system in india. most incredibly, he started the dandi salt march.
tis was a brillant move. the salt march will appeal to all levels of the indian society. india at that time was imposed with the ridiculous salt tax by their colonial master. moreover, salt was a household item that everyone needed irregardless of one's social status. with this, he managed to gather support from everybody.
the another catch to this march is that, gandhi knew very well such act will surely place the british into great dilemma. if they arrest gandhi, there will be an expectation of an all indians breakout agst the british. but if they dun not arrest gandhi, it will show a obvious flaw in the colonial system n discredit the pretigious colonial reign over india.
and in the end as all of us know... india managed to gain independence in 1947.
cooll... dun u think so?
we need more of such ppl in the church... ppl who dare to challenge watever's been declared impossible. ppl who can think out of the box and possess the boldness and intelligence to pursue great things for Him.
too bad gandhi wasn't a x'tian. he once said that he admired Jesus alot from his readings and understandings. but too bad he couldn't find a credible x'tian in his life who protrayed Christ- likeness in them. he even did admitted that if he ever met such whole- hearted x'tian, he may just consider a conversion to christianity. hai... isn't it such a waste.
no wonder Jesus taught us to be a salt and light wherever we are. and that we are the ambassadors of Him.
though it's definitely easy to say but hard to abide, i know i can do it thru Christ... no matter how many steps it'll take me. :)
